Use:
In organic synthesis, 1,1,3,3-tetramethylguanidine is used as a strong, non-nucleophilic base. 1,1,3,3-Tetramethylguanidine is an efficient and selective catalyst for the benzoylation of alcohols.
It is mainly used as a catalyst for polyurethane foam, and also used for level dyeing of nylon (nylon), wool and other proteins.
Physical and chemical properties:
Tetramethylguanidine is a colorless oily liquid with a boiling point of 160-162°C, a density of 0.918, and a refractive index of 1.4692. It is an organic strong base, soluble in toluene, cyclohexanone, ethanol, etc., and also soluble in water. In alkaline aqueous solution It is easily hydrolyzed into tetramethylurea, which is corrosive, and is usually packed in galvanized iron drums.
