1,3-Propane Sultone/1,3 PS
1,3-Propane Sultone /1,3 PS
Molecular formula: C3H6O3S
Molecular weight: 122.143
CAS No.: 1120-71-4
EINECS: 214-317-9
Physicochemical Properties:
It has the properties of general lactone. Heating together with potassium hydroxide becomes potassium hydroxysulfonate. 1,3-Propane sultone is highly reactive and can react with metal alcoholates, phenates, etc. to introduce sulfonic acid groups. There is no need for a catalyst to react with amines, and it can introduce sulfonic acid groups when heated to 130°C with alcohols, phenols, amides, and active methylene compounds in the presence of basic catalysts. Atmospheric distillation in the presence of zinc oxide or calcium chloride produces furan derivatives. Reaction with weak acids such as triethylamine to form polymers.
Applications and Usages:
Mainly used as a surfactant, also used in the preparation of cosmetics and pharmaceutical industry as a pharmaceutical intermediate, also used in tanning, ink and sensitizing dyes to synthesize sulfonating agents, widely used in pharmaceutical chemicals, photosensitive materials, lithium Battery, biochemical, textile, lubrication, wastewater treatment, surface treatment and other industries.
