Overview:
Acrylic acid is the simplest unsaturated carboxylic acid. Pure acrylic acid is a colorless and clear liquid with a characteristic pungent odor. It is highly acidic and corrosive. It is soluble in water, ethanol and ether. It is chemically active and easily aggregated into a transparent white powder.
After acrylic acid and its esters are mixed with other monomers, they will be polymerized to form homopolymers or copolymers. Common monomers that can be copolymerized with acrylic acid include amides, acrylonitrile, vinyls, styrene, and butadiene. These polymers are used in the production of a wide variety of plastics, coatings, adhesives, elastomers, floor polishes and coatings.
