Sodium chlorite is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula naclo₂. it appears as white crystals or crystalline powder. it exhibits slight hygroscopicity. it is soluble in water. liquid sodium chlorite forms a white or slightly yellowish-green aqueous solution that is alkaline and slightly hygroscopic. it is readily soluble in water and alcohol. sodium chlorite is relatively stable at room temperature and under normal storage conditions. it readily decomposes upon contact with acids, releasing chlorine dioxide gas. contact with wood shavings, organic materials, reducing agents, impact, friction, or toxic substances may cause explosion or combustion!

Applications and usage:

primarily used as a bleaching agent, decolorizing agent, antidote, and dye-removing agent.
